The provincial athletics organisation, the Central Gauteng Athletics (CGA) Road Running Commission, have recognised the annual Birchwood Half Marathon as an official championship race for the 2019 CGA Half Marathon Championships. Aligned with the CGA’s mission of developing local athletes, the fast, flat route starting and finishing on the grounds of the Birchwood Hotel in Boksburg will take place on 14 April.
Now in its ninth year, the Birchwood Half Marathon has had sell out races for the past three consecutive years with 4 000 participants of various fitness levels setting out to tackle the 21.1km, 10km and 5km races.
“It is an honour to have our race recognised by the CGA, an organisation with values similar to our own, as an official 2019 CGA Half Marathon Championship race. We look forward to working with the CGA and our sponsors in growing the Gauteng road running community this year,” says Birchwood Half Marathon Race Director, Kate Wood.
Central Gauteng Athletics is an organisation and forum that strives to achieve growth and increase the level of competitiveness in road running, cross country and track and field activities within local communities through mass participation and talent identification programmes.
In partnership with SANI Fleet Rental, S4 Auto, No Finance Cars, Garbie and the City of Ekurhuleni, the Birchwood Half Marathon is focused on encouraging a healthy lifestyle. Taking place on the 52 sprawling hectares of Birchwood Hotel’s beautiful gardens, the race and day’s activities are geared toward a fun day out for the whole family; including live music, activities for the kids, sports massages and spot prizes.
Starting at 6:30am (21.1km and 10km) and 7:30 (5km), the first 2 000 runners or walkers to enter receive a long sleeve moisture management t-shirt and all finishers will receive a medals.
